STEP 1: WASHING BRAS
Regardless of the material, it is best to wash bras by hand or on a gentle cycle at low temperature in a laundry bag and with mild detergent. When doing so, follow the washing instructions given in the care label. When you machine wash your bras, close the hooks on the back.
STEP 2: DRYING BRAS
Let your bras and fine lingerie air dry. Lay out your clothes on a towel, hang them on a hanger or carefully lay your bras over the clothesline.
STEP 3: STORING BRAS
To avoid clutter, place your bras in the linen drawer with the hooks closed - preferably one behind the other or on top of each other. This keeps the cups and straps in shape. Tip: Add a cloth handkerchief sprayed with your favourite perfume - this ensures a pleasant scent around the clock.
Machine wash or hand wash?
If bras are washed in the machine together with other textiles on the normal washing cycle, they may be squashed or torn. You should be particularly careful with underwired bras, as the strong movements can cause the underwires to come loose and block the machine or damage other products. Underwired bras are best washed by hand in a bowl or in the sink.
The recommended temperature
Follow the care label, usually 30 to 40 degrees. Especially when hand washing, make sure not to use water that is too hot. 30 degrees is below body temperature, i.e. cooler than you might think.
The right detergent
We recommend liquid detergents especially for lingerie. They are gentle on the delicate fabric and are very effective. If you don't have any at hand, you can also use baby shampoo, which is available in every drugstore. Under no circumstances should you use wool detergent or fabric softener, as these dissolve the elastic fibres. It is important that you do not use too much detergent and that you rinse it out properly until there are no more residues in the fabric.
For stubborn stains or heavily stained areas, a drop of liquid detergent can be applied to the fingertip and lightly massaged into the affected area. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing.
Correct drying
Air drying is best. Shells should be shaped when wet, then dried on a towel, on the line or hanging on a clothes hanger. Bras do not belong in the tumble dryer as this would destroy them.
When packing suitcases or in the underwear drawer
It is best to close the hooks so that they do not get caught anywhere. Cup shells should not be turned inside out, but several bras should be placed inside each other like spoons in a drawer and the cups should be padded with other items of clothing (e.g. socks). Keep away from solid, sharp objects such as belt buckles or shoe heels.
